Yanik Arda, one of the best downhillers of the last 10 seasons, has surprised friends and enemies with his unexpected move from Iran to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, 1600 kilometres east.
Even though Arda struggled scoring points in the last two seasons, his only result being a third place in the Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa Cup last season, Arda's name seemed inseparable from the Iranian team. However, Arda stated that he does plan returning to Iran someday.
"Even though I officially started my career in the Netherlands (at Ron Cycling Team, red), Team Oasis is where I became the rider I am today and I owe my biggest succeses to Nooky and my teammates. It was getting hard for me to score points in Top and Zyte, but I do think I still have it in me to win races, so I came here. It'll be exciting to ride some new races, and I really hope I can compete in Classic Oslo next season. However, I do plan to ride the last race of my career for Team Oasis. I owe Nooky and my Iranian fans that much."
Arpad Faltus, the rising DH star of Tashkent Browncoats, seems to be delighted with the transfer, even though Arda poses a threat to his captain ambitions:
"It'll be amazing to ride along one of my idols, and to see and learn. It felt good captaining my first races and even winning one, but with Arda's help, we'll probably promote to 3rd or maybe eventually Zyte, which gives me the chance to get used to the high level of competition. And when he leaves, I will have learned so much more than I would've without him."
I myself am of course also looking forward to riding with him. I really think our team is starting to take shape now, and our goal of getting something else than an achievement on the palmares seems to get closer every day now.

Yeah, I'm indeed pretty satisfied so far, it was a bit of a relief though that he won Abtenau - Salzburg
i see he won a race already and a 4th and 5th place so far. Is that to your expectations? Or does it satisfy you?
Thanks!
Arda deserves to be on the winners list of the biggest downhill classic, good luck!
